MR. CARL ALLEN WILLIAMS, a proud native of Asheville, North Carolina, boldly and bravely entered his next chapter at home on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Born on August 14, 1932, lovingly known as “Sonny,” Carl’s heart always belonged to the hills and valleys of Asheville.
The journey of Carl’s long life took him across North Carolina and along the southeast coast. Yet no place ever matched the contentment he felt among the Blue Ridge Mountains. His love for the mountains was a defining part of who he was – not just a sentiment. Carl often reverently declared, “I was born in these mountains, and I’ll die in these mountains.” True to his word, his life came full circle in the place he cherished most.
Loved ones that preceded Carl in death include his parents Georgia Scott and John Williams; siblings Irene Mack, Mildred Scott, Charles Scott, and Bobby Scott; and son, John T. Wilson, Sr.
Those who remain to cherish his memory and celebrate his life include his daughters, Alicia Wilson, Carlene Wilson, and Stephanie Newsome; friend and former wife, Edna Black; sisters, Gwendolyn Boseman and Margaret Fuller; grandchildren, John T. Wilson, Jr.; Randesha Neely; Kemuel Newsome (son, Zaelan); Joshua T. Wilson (son, Tyriq); Car’Lisha Whiteside; Ger’Ronica Surles; and many other beloved family and friends.
The legacy of Carl “Sonny” Allen Williams survives through the moments he shared as he imprinted himself onto the hearts of those who knew him. May his love for “these mountains” inspire us to cherish our own roots and the beauty that surrounds us.
In keeping with the wishes of Carl, his family will hold no funeral service. Instead, loved ones will plan future in memoriam activities to commemorate Carl’s long, well-lived life.
